The fact that we are still seeing messages that say “What can HR do to increase visibility and credibility in the boardroom” speaks volumes of the sad reality of the function in 2024.
The fact that we are used to seeing these messages and we accept them.
I do not mean to generalize as I have worked for companies where HR is the right/left hand person for the CEO, but I still get to talk to, see, observe that for many companies it is not the case.
We still need to discuss and justify internally means that a whole generation of HR leaders (including myself) have failed to do what we needed to do.
How come no one ever questions and asks why Finance, Marketing and Sales leaders need to be in the boardroom means something somewhere has gone terribly wrong for HR.
I challenge myself and other HR Leaders to reflect on this reality and ensure this does not continue.
