In anything you do, whether personal or professional, a crucial part of keeping your word, meeting your promises, and delivering on time depends upon some level of self awareness.
As I type this, waiting for a friend so we can go to another friend’s wedding. We three are getting together after 11 years and we only got next 30 hours to catch up.
I got a big huge work deadline to meet by Monday morning and this is one of the first big deliverable of a larger project in work.
To add to this fun, I need to wrap up a few personal things before a flight early Monday morning to conclude this visit.
I don’t want to miss of any of these and it comes down to time management, prioritization and discipline.
I take pride in time management and even though a lot of things are outside my control, self awareness, experience and judgement comes into play.
Moral of story is that you must play on your strength. I know roughly how much time I need in hours to wrap up my work and what I need to do. This comes from experience and knowing the stuff.
We juggle all the time. If you cannot manage don’t promise or take up more things than you can deliver. Build those boundaries. Be self aware on what you can and cannot do.
Above all, don’t let lack of self awareness inconvenience others.
